Family Night At The Spa - June 1, 2013

The first Saratoga 150 Signature Event, Family Night At The Spa, was held on June 1, 2013 at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center.

Event Highlights:  

-A $1,000 Picnic Contest.

-Music from four different bands - Irish, Italian, Polish and Latin.  Performers are The Good Times Band, the Grafton Street Band, Mike Camacho Latin Jazz Quintet, and The Rymanowski Brothers Orchestra.

-Small stage entertainment by various children’s performing groups such as Irish step dancing, singing, orchestral sounds, and ballet.

-Shows by Brad Zapp, a memory expert, juggler and circus-act teacher.

-Storytellers featuring Irish folklore, stories about life on the farm, and authentic Mohawk tribe tales by a Native American.

-A wildlife act.

-The Saratoga YMCA offered a myriad of children’s games and activities on the lawn, as well as a bounce house.

 -Picture-taking was featured by the event’s sponsor, National Grid. Children took home a photo showing them “up in the air” in a repair bucket.

-The Music Studio Kids played instruments on the lawn in demonstration sessions entitled “Orff Chestra”.

-Groups of entertainers strolled the grounds, including clowns and stilt walkers, and strolling Saratogians providing the flavor of the 1860’s, along with barber shoppers who provided sounds of the era.

-An official heralding of the fireworks by Charles Wait, from the Saratoga 150 starting gate. The starting gate, which was re-designed as a parade and display attraction, was debuted to the public at this event. The fireworks display by Alonzo was accompanied by music.

-A ceremonial cutting of a large birthday cake, created by Mazzone Hospitality.  The crowd was led in song by The Music Studio Kids with an enthusiastic rendition of “Happy Birthday Saratoga Racing”.
